Bonding with your future child begins before conception! Life is in love with itself. As William Blake said, "eternity is in love with time." What we call bonding is just that, which begins with mother and her infant and expands to embody the entire universe. - M. Mendizza

Autism's First Child
, by Donovan & Zucker. (2010). Brain in the News.
Children with autism is already an epidemic, but what about adults
with autism? An estimated 500,000 children diagnosed with autism
will become adults during this decade. Meet Donald Gray Triplett, age 77,
the first person to be diagnosed with autism. Read and learn about this first
child who was called "odd" as a child. That was 67 years ago. A medical article
written in 1943 described this condition as "unlike anything reported so far."

For more Clinical Research Studies on Autism please refer to UC Davis

Institute..

The Autism Spectrum Disorders are comprised of:

Pervasive Developmental Disorders including Asperger's Syndrome (AS),
Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS),

The word "Autism" is defined as including all Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Every year, the once obscure diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome,
is given to significantly more children.

Byron Rourke feels that the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
has reached epidemic proportions.
Rourke is the author of, Nonverbal Learning Disabilities.

The reason we are looking at the figures for 2007, in 2009,
is this disorder can take from two to three years to detect and diagnose.

Odds of a child performing at Carnegie Hall: 1 in 73,000

Odds of a child being diagnosed with autism: 1 in 110

(This figure from December 22, 2009.)

Note: This diagnosis is handed out to four times as many boys as girls.

Experts who are revising psychiatry's diagnostic manual have proposed to
eliminate Asperger's Syndrome from the new edition, due out in 2012. If these
experts create a change they will merge Asperger's Syndrome with another
mild form of autism,

Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Not Otherwise Specified.
(P.D.D.-N.O.S.)

Taking Asperger's out of the manual, known to experts as
D.S.M.-V for the fifth edition of the,
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders,
does not mean the term will vanish. Some experts are concerned the
diagnosis has become a catch-all diagnosis on overload. One might
ask why so many have recently been diagnosed, or re-diagnosed,
with the above mentioned Asperger's Syndrome.

Lancet Retracts Study Tying Vaccine to Autism.
article by Shirley Wang.
appeared in The Wall Street Journal, February, 2010.

It is important to note that the British study that first linked the
development of autism to MMR vaccines (1998)
consisted of only 12 children. A retraction
to the original article recently appeared.
"I hope this brings closure to this controversy. My fear,
unfortunately, is that this won't totally allay the fear of parents"

One study suggests the key may be found in the mother's womb.
Mothers of children with autism might produce immune proteins that
react with and potentially harm their babies' brains during pregnancy.
Harvey Singer, a pediatric neurologist at Johns Hopkins University and
his colleagues do not know yet, however, Singer speculates,
"the role the brain proteins play during development or whether the
maternal antibodies actually influence their function. The team plans
to investigate by injecting human maternal antibodies into pregnant
mice to see if their offspring show developmental problems."

Protecting Parents of Children with the Autism Spectrum
from Others and Themselves.
Often parents, whether biological or adoptive, of children who suffer from
the autism spectrum become isolated from others and may feel alone within
their community. This article suggests that parents find reliable sources of
information about their child's illness and appropriate treatments. This may
come as a therapeutic alliance with a clinician with expertise in ASDs.
Whether parents communicate with the clinician in person or via email,
it is important to vent concerns and ask questions concerning each stage
of their child's development. Autism Counseling Points. July 2008.

"All seeds contain life, but those dropped among rocks and thorn
simply stand far less chance of expressing that life than those
falling on fertile soil. When that environment provides the appropriate

The resulting behaviors range from battles over dressing to difficulty

parents of children with sensory processing difficulties show how to
recognize sensory processing problems and evaluate treatment options,
view the child's world through a "sensory lens," and implement
strategies for handling sensory challenges at home, at school,
